W+K AMS – GEDOGEN PORTRAITS

When you walk into any W+K office, you see portraits of the people who work there.
Each portrait wall reflects both the agency culture and the character of the place it calls home.

I was lucky to be part of the team that developed the concept and executed the idea for Amsterdam’s portrait wall.
Here, we decided to serve up our personalities on Delfts Blauw pottery, the iconic blue and white glaze the Dutch have been perfecting since the 1600s.

Each piece features a one of a kind reinterpretation of traditional patterns, sourced, remixed and playfully deconstructed, alongside a portrait by Eva Roef, then fired by Maatwerktegels in Utrecht.

The plates are hung on the wall, over our unofficial motto “Gedogen” (illegal but tolerated), designed and painted by Amsterdam Signpainters in the iconic Amsterdam Curl Calligraphy.

There are little beliefs and provocations from Dan and David that we call “Wiedenisms”. My favourite has always been “Fail harder”, mainly because I practice it quite regularly.

So we dedicated a special piece to this motto: a vase that was made, broken, and then carefully glued back together with a glue from Praxis.
